SUNY Potsdam
Located north of the Adirondack Mountains (it’s only an hour and a half from the Canadian Border), SUNY Potsdam features a unique location, a challenging climate, and an extraordinary sense of community amongst its students.
While one of the more distinct members of the SUNY system, SUNY Potsdam was nevertheless struggling to differentiate itself.
Idfive conducted a comprehensive Web360™ to help SUNY Potsdam better understand its brand and positioning and discovered that what drew prospects to the school was a combination of its tight-knit feel, location, and sense of community amongst its students. Students who did well at Potsdam did well because they enjoyed the difference and often found that they “discovered themselves” in a way that they never had before.
Our Web360™ process and collaborative design approach fulfilled one of the major goals of the project: building consensus and involving the university community in the development of the site. Idfive’s contribution was impressive enough that the institution is now launching a branding project with idfive in the lead.
The new web site (constructed on top of the CommonSpot CMS) is designed to feature the people and location of the school as clearly and beautifully as possible, emphasizing the “Potsdam Difference” while highlighting its unique qualities in an open and honest way.
We think the end result is visually stunning, superbly organized, and presents the brand of the institution in a way that’s truer to the real experience of the University than any of their other communications materials. After its launch in November, 2008 over 70% of the students responded extremely positively to the redesign of the site.
And they are not alone, SUNY Potsdam's website won "Best of Category" for SUNYCUAD Awards for Excellence (May 2009), and it was selected as a Silver winner of the Higher Education Marketing Report's 24th annual Admissions Advertising Award competition (March 2009).
